Top ways to experience Light Cycles

30 May 2024

It’s all glow as Light Cycles illuminates Wellington Botanic ki Paekākā like never before. With the experience exclusively in the Garden's until 9 June, we’ve put together some top tips for getting the most out of your experience.

Travel up on the Cable Car

Let’s face it, a trip to Wellington isn’t complete without a ride on its iconic Cable Car. What’s more, it’s a sweet way to get to the start of Light Cycles. Hop on from Wellington Central Cable Car station and take a ride up to the top. The Cable Car opening times may vary so be sure to check the timetable and ensure you give yourself enough time to make your session.

Top tip: There is an exclusive 15% off Wellington Cable Car ticket offer for Light Cycles ticket holders, this can be redeemed online or from the Cable Car ticket booth. If you are purchasing the Cable Car tickets online, you will receive an exclusive discount code (all adult and child one-way tickets) once you book your Light Cycles ticket. T&Cs apply.

Stroll at your pace

Light Cycles goal: Take it all in

We’re in our slow walking era. Set out on the self-guided walk at a pace that suits you – Light Cycles is all about being there and connecting with the secret rhythms of nature. Upon arrival you’ll join the queue and be guided into the experience at 15-minute intervals, from that point you’ll have free rein to explore at your leisure. We recommend spending around 45 minutes at the experience, but it’s totally up to you.

Experience an earlier session

Whether you’ve got little ones in tow or just an early bedtime goer, we’ve got the perfect Light Cycles experience for you. Exclusively on Sat 1 June and Sat 8 June you can discover the magic of Light Cycles at new earlier session times of 5.30pm and 5.45pm.

Top tip: Plan your Saturday evening to a 'T' and dine out in Kelburn after an early Light Cycles session.

Grab a warming drink

We feel those wintery vibes creeping in. As autumn gets into full swing, wrap up warm and grab a hot choc, tea, coffee and more from the Cable Top Eatery before making your way down to the start of Light Cycles. Open ‘til late at 8pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays, you’ll get 10% off any hot drinks when you show your valid Light Cycles ticket.

Join the relaxed vibes

On Sunday 2 June at 5.30pm join us for an adapted session of Light Cycles. Starting at an earlier time, our relaxed session will include less crowds, more time to explore at a pace that suits you, reduced sound and a designated drop-off and pick-up zone.

Top tip: Companions can attend for free for the whole of Light Cycles. Access tickets cost $20 for all the sessions.
